I’m writing this more as a reminder to myself. If it helps someone else, even better.
I’m not a guru. I’m not a motivational speaker. I’m definitely not Tony Robbins. This is just a no-bullshit note to break bad patterns and level up in 2026.
Let’s not roll into a new year carrying the same habits, the same excuses, and the same baggage.
Different calendar. Same problems.
That’s not the move.
And it sure as hell isn’t mine.
This is the moment to shed your skin and step forward lighter, clearer, and ready to actually win.
Step 1: Take Stock. Honestly.
Look back at the last year without nostalgia or self-pity.
Shit happens. Life’s hard. Everyone dropped the ball somewhere.
Take an intellectually honest inventory of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Ask yourself:
- What actually worked?
- What drained me?
- Who helped me grow?
- What habits quietly held me back?
Keep it simple. If something gave you energy, keep it. If it took more than it gave, mark it for removal.
No judgment. Just data.
Step 2: Decide Where You’re Going
It’s time to focus.
The era of being a scattered generalist is over. Pick one thing you’re going to attack this year and commit to it.
Yeah, I know. This isn’t the usual “follow your passion” advice. But here’s the truth: I want to win. And winning requires focus.
FOCUS = Following One Course Until Success
Answer this clearly:
- Who do I want to be this time next year?
- What does my average day actually look like?
- What do I do daily that proves I’m that person?
If you can’t picture it, you don’t want it badly enough yet.
Get vivid. Dream bigger.
Step 3: Shed the Bad
This is the hard part.
Routines break. Life interrupts. You fall off track. Getting back in rhythm is brutal. I know this one well.
Still, no excuses.
Bad habits don’t disappear. They derail momentum.
Identify:
- One habit that’s killing progress
- One relationship that’s keeping you small
- One pattern you repeat even though you know better
I’m not telling you to quit everything you enjoy. I am telling you to be honest. Notice what’s hurting you. Cut it back or cut it out.
Don’t let the spiral start.
Step 4: Act the Part Before You Get the Part
Nobody becomes who they want to be by waiting.
You don’t wake up confident. You act confident until it sticks.
You don’t become disciplined first. You behave disciplined and let identity catch up.
Do what your future self would do:
- Show up when it’s inconvenient
- Keep promises to yourself
- Choose boring consistency over short-term comfort
Act like you’ve been there before. The rest follows.
Step 5: Move Forward. No Looking Back.
You’re not required to drag old versions of yourself into the future.
Thank them for getting you here. Then let them go.
2026 doesn’t need a new you.
It needs a lighter one.
Shed your skin.
Step forward clean.
Happy New Year friends!
Cheers,
Alex Medick
